Many of us are already familiar with services like Uber and Lyft. They provide convenient and affordable ways for people to get around and they are also a great way for freelancers to make extra income.

But these services are just two of the many that can help you make extra money driving your car.

This article will provide you with a bit more information about Uber and Lyft and similar services that will help you bring in additional income.

Uber and Lyft

Uber and Lyft are pretty similar services. Both offer different tiers of service for passengers and both have comparable rates.

The biggest difference between the two is that Uber is available in more countries than Lyft. Lyft cars also tends to take longer to arrive than Uber cars although wait times are basically comparable.

The requirements drivers need to sign up for these services is pretty much the same as well. These are as follows:

  • Drivers must be at least 21
  • Drivers must have had their license at least 1 year, 3 years if they are under 23.
  • Drivers must have a social security number, a driver’s license and car insurance under their name.
  • Driver’s must agree to a background check.
  • Cars must be 2006 models or newer and have four doors.

If you meet all these qualifications, you can apply to be a driver on the Uber and Lyft web sites.

Easy Taxi

This is a driving service that is known for its smooth booking service. Users can adjust menu options to find out estimated drive times and fares. Now operating in 30 countries, they are gaining a reputation for being one of the best driving apps and one of the safest services out there.

Gett

Formerly Get Taxi, Gett is becoming one of the more popular driving apps due to its competitive pricing strategy. While Uber is raising its rates, Gett is beating the competition by dropping their prices by 25%.

Other features that set them apart are their cashless payment option and their booking feature that allows you to book rides up to two weeks in advance.

Curb

Once known as Taxi Magic, Curb is becoming more popular in the driving app world by offering pre-scheduled rides, mainly to airport locations. Although they offer a pre-payment option, Curb riders can also pay drivers in cash.

While Curb offers services some other driving apps don’t, they may benefit from an update to their interface. Many say the app lags when it comes to showing riders their payment and booking confirmation. However, this does not interfere with the timely service Curb offers.

Summon

(Editor Note: The website link is not working, this app could be shutting down, so this entry is just for research purposes.)

This hybrid transport app offers cab-hailing and ridesharing options. Unlike other driving services, it does not increase rates during peak traffic times.

Some features that help Summon stand out include its Schedule Ahead Program which comes with a 30-minute free cancellation option. They also have customer support available to prevent no-shows and elongated wait times and they offer flat rates to certain locations, primarily airports.

Summon is currently available in the Bay area only, but it is predicted that it will expand in the coming years.

Flywheel

The pan-european driving app allows customers to hail professional, fully licensed taxi drivers and offers standard rates, even during peak hours. They use Taxi iOS for fare and tracking analytics which helps them provide a better customer experience and also helps drivers and cab fleets stay connected.

The cab-hail and tracking services they offer keeps them competitive with other driving apps while their advanced software gives them an edge. It is for this reason that Flywheel is becoming a more popular choice for drivers and riders alike.

Bla Bla Car

This service has an interesting spin allowing users to choose how chatty they want their drivers to be during their car rides. Other than offering a unique angle, they are also known for setting low fees for long distance journeys. This, along with its simple booking features, is all part of what’s making Bla Bla Car a favorite.

Hailo

Launched in London, Hailo has since expanded to other locations throughout Europe and Asia. They offer low fares for taxi services as well as a business option that offers express booking, corporate cards and other convenient features. They are known for providing a clean interface that makes their system easy to use.

Drivr

This premium car services lets passengers ride in luxury by providing high end cars like BMW’s, Jaguars and more. Available on the US west coast, this chauffeur driven lifestyle comes at a surprisingly affordable rate.
